Privacy Policy
This policy describes what ChessTropic collects when you use the website or application, and how that information is used. It applies to guests, free accounts, and paid subscribers.
ChessTropic is not a registered company. The operator is the ChessTropic team, reachable at [email protected]. We do not sell your personal data.
1. What we collect
Information you provide
- Email address (account identity, verification, password reset, and payment receipts). Passwords are handled by our authentication provider; we do not store them.
- Display name and handle for your profile and leaderboard entries.
- Chess.com or Lichess usernames you choose to link. We never request passwords for those sites.
- PGN text you submit for game analysis. It is processed to return results and is not saved as a full game on your account.
Information generated by use
- Training progress, scores, puzzle history, repertoire courses, and related usage needed to run the Service and enforce plan limits.
- A short opening book verdict derived from reviewed games (for example, where you left theory), stored on your account for Book insight.
Information collected automatically
- One essential session cookie to keep you signed in.
- Google Analytics for anonymous usage statistics (pages visited, browser type, general region). No advertising cookies or other third-party tracking scripts are used.
2. How we use your information
- Operate your account, save progress, and enforce plan limits.
- Fetch public game data from Chess.com or Lichess using usernames you provide, and analyse games with Stockfish. Full PGN is discarded after analysis; the opening book verdict may remain on your account until you delete it.
- Send essential email: verification codes, password-reset links, and payment receipts.
- Improve the Service using aggregate, anonymised usage data.
3. Third parties
We do not sell or rent your data. Processors that handle data on our behalf:
- Google Firebase β authentication and account data storage.
- Stripe β payment processing. Card details are entered on Stripeβs checkout; ChessTropic never stores your card number.
- Email provider β transactional email (recipient address and delivery status only).
- Hosting provider β application and database hosting under our instructions.
Chess.com and Lichess are not data processors for this Service. We query their public APIs on your behalf and store only the usernames you link.
4. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, erase, or restrict processing of your personal data, and to data portability. You can delete your account yourself at any time from the Account page. Deletion is permanent: profile, progress, linked usernames, leaderboard entries, and courses you created are removed. If a paid plan is attached, it is cancelled as part of the deletion. Unused time in the current billing period is not refunded.
For other requests, email [email protected]. We respond within 30 days.
5. Retention
- Account data and progress
- Kept while your account is active. On deletion, removed from live systems immediately; remaining backups are overwritten within 30 days.
- PGN submitted for analysis
- Held only long enough to complete analysis, then discarded. Any opening book verdict stored on your account is removed when you delete the account.
- Email verification codes
- Deleted when consumed or expired.
- Payment records
- Stripe subscription and payment metadata kept as required by law, then deleted.
6. International transfers
Data is processed in the European Union. If you access the Service from outside the EU, your data is transferred to and processed in the EU under applicable adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.
7. Changes
We may update this policy. The βLast updatedβ date will change when we do. For material changes that significantly affect your rights, we will email the address on your account.
